Please remember that Annual Sessions will take place at Amigo Centre on June 9-10. Registration will be available soon and information will be posted as it become available here.

Conference Sunday June 11: on the weekend of Annual Sessions, conference staff will provide worship resources, including sermon on video, that connects to the theme used in Annual Sessions.

  • The grand opening of La Posada Immigrant Aid in March, which came about through the collaboration of various MC USA affiliated congregations, conferences, schools, and agencies in Elkhart County. The agency, which was founded by Naun Cerrato and housed at Sunnyside Mennonite Church, will provide a variety of immigration resources. To see how you can support their mission, visit their website: www.LaPosadaAid.com.
  • Connections and worship with about 60 leaders from MC USA conferences and constituency groups who met March 23-25. Joanne Gallardo, and Sharon Yoder, and moderator-elect Steve Slagel attended Constituency Leaders Council, which was held in San Antonio. See more information here: CLC looks at ways to make the denomination more nimble | Mennonite Church USA (mennoniteusa.org)
  • Joanne and Sharon collaborate regularly with leadership teams who invest deeply in the vision and mission of our conference. Joanne meets with the Gifts Development Team, Leadership Enhancement Team, and the Intercultural Working Group. Sharon meets with the Ministry Credentialing Team and Stewardship Team. Both Joanne and Sharon join Missional Leadership Team meetings.
  • Sharon met with the Midwest Chaplains via zoom on April 11, hosted by MHS Association. This group provides support to chaplains who serve in this region, some of whom attend our conference congregations.
  • Joanne will serve as worship leader for the AMBS Transition to Leadership program April 14-16.
  • The Ministry Credentialing Team (MCT) is opening a process to address harm inflicted by its credentialing interviews. Though the credentialing approach of MCT has moved toward one of collaboration and trust in congregational discernment, MCT is aware that it has fallen short of this ideal in many instances. The team and the conference intend to create spaces to hear stories, extend an institutional apology and work toward healing. The first step in this journey is the release of this letter inviting those who have been negatively impacted to participate in the listening process. This marks an important point in our journey as we seek to live out our vision as a “Community of Congregations…Acting through Grace, Love, and Peace.”
  • The Leadership Enhancement Team (LET) is thankful for the work of Ben Bouwman as chair, and starting in July Kent Miller will serve as chair on LET.
  • The Gifts Development Team (GDT) is grateful for people stepping out and stepping up to serve on our Conference teams. We have had several positions filled that have had openings for some time. Thank you! If you would like to be considered for a conference team, or have a suggestion of who we might ask, please click here.

The 2023 SENT conference is happening May 4-7 in South Philadelphia at the Circle of Hope and Nations Worship Center. The Theme for this year is “Explorations in Multiethnic Ministry” and perhaps goes well with some of the encouragement towards missional thinking you are working at CDC.

Highlights will include:

  • worshiping and hearing from South Philly churches
  • presentations from Roots of Justice on healthy intercultural spirituality and Everence on Healthy finances
  • Speakers Joe Sawatzky sharing on “Faithful to the Lord with Steadfast Devotion: Acts 11 and the Church in Mission” and Leonard Dow on “The Beloved Community-A Culture in Christ”.
  • Panel sessions with leaders currently working in the multiethnic church and church planters in South Philly
