Delegates, church offices and service trip coordinators
If you are considering a service project this year, I invite you to consider Detroit as your destination. As Mennonite Disaster Service closed its flood clean-up project in Detroit, they invited Community Christian Fellowship (CCF) to enter into an extended relationship through August 2017. In a letter, Bishop Sam Wilson describes the arrangement this way:
MDS has garnered a couple named Kevin and Abigail to volunteer as project coordinators to help assess and coordinate rehab projects. They will be here through May, and possibly through August.
Properties to be rehabbed include, but are not limited to, CCF church facilities, CCF congregants’ homes, and non-members’ homes if time and resources allow.
MDS has currently agreed to provide volunteers through August 31. This includes adults and two large youth groups in June and July.
Materials will be supplied at the cost of CCF church members and other donations.
We have applied for an Schowalter Grant through Bluffton University (TBD). This grant will be used to renovate the bathrooms and other rooms above our administrative wing.
This extended time is a wonderful opportunity to connect with a sister congregation in Detroit. Again, Bishop Wilson writes,
The project is well underway and it seems that the Holy Spirit is working supernaturally. Several significant repairs have already taken place and more are in progress with more being planned. This project has created a tremendous sense of brotherhood and mutual aid among the group. Our congregation has come alive with greater energy and vision. There is definitely a lad’s lunch among us!
While volunteer involvement is the most direct way to participate, they are also accepting financial donations to help cover cost of materials.
