Amigo Centre connecting with IN-MI Conference congregations

July 31, 2012

Many of us have benefited over the years from the ministry of Amigo Centre, one of our conference-owned organizations. As part of regular conversation with conference organizations, Cliff Brubaker, Amigo’s executive director, told the Missional Leadership Team (MLT) Amigo desires to strengthen relationships with congregations. The MLT has encouraged the Amigo board and staff to share about their changing ministry and hear what is important to congregations. In response to the information Cliff shared about Amigo’s financial challenges, MLT has suggested that the contacts with congregations also include some educational information on what it costs to run a ministry like Amigo Centre. Pastors and church offices can anticipate contact about a good Sunday to bring greetings and share a bit about Amigo’s current ministry. The Missional Leadership Team and conference staff encourage churches to take advantage of this opportunity as it comes along.

As a community of congregations we value the work of our two conference-owned organizations, Amigo Centre and Bethany Christian Schools. Beginning last year, I have been meeting with Cliff and Allan Dueck, BCS principal, to talk about what we want our relationship to look like. These are good conversations. Brubaker was interim director and has been the director at Amigo for the last year. Along with Bethany Christian School principal Allan Dueck, we meet periodically to work at the relationship between our three organizations. How do three church organizations with overlapping yet unique constituencies work together for our common good? How do we navigate the changing demographic and financial landscapes? I invite your prayers of thanks for Amigo and Bethany, and prayers for God’s blessing on our ministries.
